The co-founders behind the famous ice cream brand Ben & Jerry's has stated how parent company the multinational conglomerate prevented the launch of an innovative pro-Palestinian ice cream flavor.

Ben Cohen, that established the company with his partner, disclosed how he plans to independently develop this new product as part of a personal collection showcasing issues the company was barred from speaking out about.

Ongoing Conflict Between Creators versus Parent Company

This latest announcement escalates the ongoing disagreement between the internationally recognized dessert company with Unilever, the British consumer goods giant which acquired Ben & Jerry's for over two decades.

The co-founders have claimed that Unilever along with their ice cream division Magnum improperly prevented their company against "fulfilling its ethical commitments".

Watermelon Sorbet as a Symbol of Solidarity

Mr. Cohen revealed via social media that he's developing an innovative watermelon-flavored frozen dessert, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name and additional components.

“I'm accomplishing what they were prevented from doing,” the founder declared in a cooking set. “I'm creating a watermelon-flavored frozen dessert that calls for permanent peace for Palestinians while demanding repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has become a symbol of support for Palestinians due to its coloration, which mirror those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement plus Recent Changes

In 2021, the ice cream company ceased sales of its products in territories under Israeli control, leading to Unilever selling the Israeli operation to a local licensee, thereby permitting ongoing distribution in disputed territories.

This upcoming product line will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company which was first created several years back for endorsing former political contender Senator Sanders via the product "Bernie's Return".

Management Shifts and Future Plans

Mr. Cohen revealed how he will create other ice cream flavors that address issues which Ben & Jerry's was silenced from speaking about openly by Unilever.

The announcement follows partner Jerry Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's recently, following decades of involvement, mentioning concerns regarding how the company's autonomy had been compromised after Unilever's decision to restrict their advocacy work.

Previously, Mr. Cohen remarked how “My partner has strong compassion and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

"My heart compels me to continue to work within the organization to fight for its independence so that the company can achieve the social mission, the values that it was founded on and has maintained for decades," he explained to journalists.
