Jennifer Lawrence States Discussing Donald Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Dividing the Nation Apart
Lawrence has expressed that she no longer feels suitable to comment publicly countering the Trump government, fearing it could exacerbate polarizing arguments and deepen rifts throughout the nation.
‘I’m Unsure If It’s Wise’, Explains Jennifer Lawrence
In a recent interview, the Oscar winner shared, “During the first Trump administration, I thought I was running around in a panicked state. But experience has shown, election after election, celebrities fail to influence whatsoever on who people vote for.”
Lawrence added, “So then what am I doing? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the nation apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has spoken candidly about voting for both right and leftwing candidates in past elections. Brought up by Republican parents in her home state, she cast her ballot for the Republican nominee in the 2008 election before joining the Democratic party and stating she recognized during President Obama’s term that backing conservatives was opposing her individual liberties as a woman.
Previous Comments
In 2015, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election could represent “a catastrophic event” and backed Joe Biden in the 2020 presidential race. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I feel she’s an amazing candidate and I know that she will make every effort to defend reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was supported by most of Hollywood in her opposition to the former president as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence public figures have over the electoral decisions was underscored by his election win.
“The second term appears changed,” said she regarding his administration. “As he said what he was going to do. We knew what he did for his first term. He was explicit. And that’s what we chose.”
Latest Film
Jennifer Lawrence is currently promoting her new film, the filmmaker’s drama in which she stars as a recent parent who faces challenges with her emotional state in rural Montana. Speaking at a media event for the movie in Venice, Lawrence addressed the conflict in Gaza: “I’m terrified. It’s horrifying. What’s happening is equivalent to a atrocity and it’s terrible.”
Broader Concerns
The actress elaborated by stating that she was saddened by “the lack of civility in the discourse of American politics at present and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation now. It’s going to be normal to them that politicians lie.”
The actor attempted to refocus anger about the situation to policymakers rather than celebrities. “Concentrate on the people in charge,” she said, seen by observers as a reference to the then-recent pledge endorsed by numerous Hollywood professionals to boycott Israeli film institutions.
Individual Insights
Jennifer Lawrence, who earned critical acclaim aged 22 for her role in the acclaimed film, is receiving praise for her portrayal in Die, My Love. While the director has rejected the narrative being interpreted as one of maternal mental health issues and psychosis, the actress shared that she did relate to parts of her film narrative after the arrival of her second son, not long after production wrapped.
“There was concern about my child,” she explained, “just picturing every negative outcome, and then second-guessing everything that I was trying. I was already in therapy, but I started taking a medication called the prescription and I used it for a short period and it made a difference.”
Film Challenges
Lawrence also spoke regarding the empowering aspect of shooting revealing sequences in the film while she was expecting and couldn’t work out.
“There’s a freedom,” she commented, of being forced to abandon insecurities. “I mean, I sometimes think where I’m like, What separates me between my work and that profession? But it doesn’t trouble me deeply.”
