Seamer Atkinson Exacerbates England's Fitness Worries.

'Significant concern' for the touring side as Atkinson goes off due to a hamstring issue.

Gus Atkinson increased the fitness woes of the England squad when he left the field during Saturday's play of the fourth Ashes Test in the Ashes series.

The pace bowler experienced discomfort in his left hamstring immediately following a delivery of the fourth over during the morning session.

The touring camp reported Atkinson felt some "soreness" and would spend time off the field to undergo evaluation "over the next few hours".

The concluding match of the tour in Sydney begins at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost key quicks Mark Wood with a knee problem and Jofra Archer because of a side injury on the current trip.

A replacement bowler was brought into the squad as injury reinforcement.

The seamer had a tough time in the opening two Tests, managing only three wickets.

He was omitted of the third Test, then recalled for the Boxing Day match to fill the void.

The county bowler showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps during the host's first knock, then making 28 with the bat being one of only three teammates to reach double figures.

Following a brief spell at the end of day one, he resumed for the second day's play and dismissed the nightwatchman taken by the wicketkeeper.

However, towards the conclusion of that over, he delivered a variation to Travis Head and promptly felt at his leg.

Gus Atkinson was recalled for the fourth Ashes Test following his omission the previous Test.
