The Porcine Pardon: Hog Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Leader.
It might not have been at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “May this pig enjoy a long and happy life without fear.”
The gathering, which both honors and questions the local cultural practice of feasting on pork during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The swine, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the popular vernacular phrase of young people exclaiming “6-7” – originating from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.
A Future Secured
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a rural sanctuary “distant from barbecues and spits”, according to the ceremony's official statement.
“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said Eric Castellanos, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, multicultural, and rooted in traditions that unite the community. Each year, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of croquettes and cafecito as they celebrated the pig's pardon.
