Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now household names.
In 2026, the next chapter is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will resolve the ending of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Frightens the Gang
In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who received the toy collection when he grew up — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.
Presumably, the frog-shaped tablet will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the toys appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it likely will.
The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is back with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), traveling with a carnival and helping prize toys locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is a little strange, however. It also makes us wonder whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?
Continuity from the Previous Film
Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act Woody did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge attached to her shirt.
It is hoped she is still the driving force among the toys.
Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
