Rees-Zammit stands ready to make an international rugby comeback appearance with Wales next month, nearly two years after he left the game to chase a career with the NFL. Now 24, the winger is included in a 39-man team roster announced by new Wales head coach Tandy.

From NFL Dreams to Rugby Return

The British and Irish Lions winger, who last played internationally at the 2023 World Cup, made the switch to American football at the start of last year yet eventually was unable to appear in an official contest. He resumed his professional rugby last August when he joined the English club Bristol Bears.

Despite Rees-Zammit has been sidelined the Bears’ most recent fixtures because of a foot problem, it is not anticipated to miss extended time. Wales are scheduled to start their November internationals against Argentina next month, followed by matches against the Brave Blossoms, the All Blacks, and the Springboks.

New Coach, Fresh Faces

Steve Tandy, formerly the defensive coach for Scotland, has also included front-rower Rhys Carré, who had been not qualified for Wales selection due to the policy stipulating that players overseas-based to hold no fewer than 25 test matches. He has made 20 appearances but is now eligible since no obtain an adequate deal to stay domestically upon his return to north London last year.

Included as well are five new players: front-rower Brodie Coghlan, Ospreys lock Fender, back-rower Morgan Morse, Cardiff prop Danny Southworth, and Bath centre Louie Hennessey. The group will be under the leadership of flanker Jac Morgan.

“The process has been thrilling reviewing all the players and seeing the depth of talent we have,” stated Tandy. “It’s a nice blend of emerging talent combined with older heads also. But the overall feeling is really exciting and I look forward to have the players into camp on Monday.”

Missing Players and Farewells

Experienced second-row Will Rowlands, who has earned 41 international appearances for Wales, will not be involved and has announced end his career with Wales. Also, Winnett and Keelan Giles could not be considered for selection through fitness concerns.

Elsewhere, Scottish head coach Townsend has named an extended squad including three debut forwards: Liam McConnell of Edinburgh, Morris, Masibaka. Edinburgh’s Magnus Bradbury is again available in contention for international duty after an absence. Scotland will begin their autumn Tests against the USA, before matches against the All Blacks, Argentina, and the Ikale Tahi.
